Does u-save require any bond to hire a van or truck?
When Bronze or Silver Cover is selected a NZ$500 security bond is required for all van and truck hires and is refundable on completion of the hire. The bond is held via a pre-authorisation on a valid credit card which must be in the main hire's name. If Gold Cover is selected, no bond is held. In the case of a Debit Card, Gold Cover is mandatory. i.e excess reduction must be purchased.
What is the cost of the Gold Cover insurance option and is it recommended?
We recommend the Gold Cover option when hiring a van or truck from u-save to remove the requirement for a security bond + reduce your insurance excess. The Gold Cover options may vary based on vehicle type and class - please use our quote function to price this for the vehicle you require. In the case of a cash or Visa Debit bond full insurance is mandatory i.e. Gold Cover must be purchased
Does the vehicle hire cost include fuel?
Our hire vans and trucks are provided with a full tank of fuel and must be returned with a full tank.
What type of mechanical breakdown assistance is provided?
Call 0508 11 22 33 between 8:00am - 5:30pm to speak with our team for support.
We will make arrangements to support you based on the vehicle issue.
Can we take the rental vehicle on the Interisland ferry services?
Yes, phone 0800 802 802 for reservations. Be sure to check the vehicle length prior to booking.
Please note our hire vehicles are insured while on the Inter-island ferry.
What is your cancellation policy?
Our cancellation fees are as follows:
Cancelled at least 3 days before pick up: No further charges apply.
Cancelled 1-3 days before pick up: 50% of the rental (including accessories and insurance) is payable to u-save / the booking agent.
Cancelled on the day/no show: 100% of the rental (including accessories and insurance) is payable to u-save / the booking agent
What happens if I need to shorten the rental period?
Unfortunately we do not offer refunds for vehicles returned earlier than the specified hire drop-off date/time.
What is the procedure for extending the rental period?
You can call us on our nationwide toll free number (0508 11 22 33) to have an extension authorised, subject to vehicle availability.
How long have u-save been in the truck rental business?
We have been in the rental industry for over 20 years.
Can u-save provide one-way hires?
Yes, we provide one-way truck and van hire between our depots in Auckland City, Auckland Airport, Christchurch and Queenstown.
Does u-save charge for additional drivers?
No, there is no charge for additional drivers as we prefer you to have the option to share the driving.
What are the licence requirements for u-save's truck and van hire?
All drivers must be 20 years and over and hold a full licence. All vehicles can be driven on a Class 1 car licence.
